Get started in 3 steps

Every project starts with a free consultation, so you know what self-sufficiency your block can support before you spend a cent.

  1. Free consultation and site assessment

We look at your block's orientation, roof area, rainfall catchment and garden space, then talk you through which package suits your site and budget, from energy-only through to full energy, water and food self-sufficiency.

  2. Design, systems and approvals

We design the home and its systems together, sizing the solar array, battery storage, rainwater tanks and garden infrastructure to how your household actually lives. Then we manage the permits and approvals.

  3. Build, commission and handover

We build the home and install the systems under one fixed-price contract, commission everything so it works from day one, and walk you through running your new self-sufficient home.

What's included

  • Energy package: solar and battery

A solar array and battery storage sized to your household, designed into the home from the start so panels, cabling and storage are integrated, not bolted on.

  • Water package: rainwater harvesting

Rainwater tanks, first-flush systems and plumbing that feed the garden, laundry and toilets, with mains backup so you are never caught short.

  • Food package: productive gardens

Wicking beds, greenhouse space, composting systems and irrigation fed by your harvested rainwater, laid out so growing food is easy, not a chore.

  • Passive solar design

Orientation, glazing, insulation and thermal mass designed to cut heating and cooling loads before any technology is added.

  • Staged packages

Start with the energy package and pre-wire and pre-plumb for water and food, so you can add the next stage later without rework.

  • Permits and compliance

Town planning where needed, building permits and energy compliance, all managed by one team.

The three systems of a self-sufficient home

Why choose Lvant Projects

  • Designer and builder in one team

Self-sufficient homes only work when the systems are designed into the house, not added after. We do both, so nothing gets lost between an architect and a builder.

  • Packages, not all-or-nothing

Energy first, then water, then food. You choose how far to go and when, and we design so each stage slots in cleanly.

  • Fixed-price contracts

Home and systems priced together up front, so you know the real cost of self-sufficiency before we start.

  • Honest advice on payback

We will tell you straight which systems make sense for your block and which do not, including realistic payback periods.

Frequently asked questions

What is a self-sufficient home?

A self-sufficient home produces most of what it needs on site. Ours are built around three systems: energy self-sufficiency through solar panels and battery storage, water self-sufficiency through rainwater harvesting, and food self-sufficiency through productive gardens and growing infrastructure. You can build all three at once or stage them.

Do I have to go fully off-grid?

No. Most of our clients stay connected to mains power and water as a backup while running mainly on their own systems. Going fully off-grid is possible on the right block, and we will tell you honestly whether yours suits it at the free consultation.

What packages do you offer?

Three staged packages. The energy package covers solar and battery storage. The energy and water package adds rainwater harvesting and reuse plumbing. The full package adds food production: wicking beds, greenhouse space, composting and irrigation. Each stage is designed so the next one can be added later without rework.

Can I start with just solar and battery and add the rest later?

Yes, that is exactly how the packages are designed. If you start with the energy package we can pre-plumb and pre-wire for the water and food stages during the build, which makes adding them later far cheaper than retrofitting.

Does a self-sufficient home cost more to build?

The systems add to the build cost, but they cut or remove your power and water bills from day one and passive solar design reduces what the home needs in the first place. At the free consultation we give you realistic numbers for each package so you can weigh the up-front cost against the ongoing savings.

Can you add these systems to an existing home?

Often, yes. Solar, batteries and rainwater tanks retrofit well, and we can build garden infrastructure on most blocks. If you are planning a major extension or renovation, that is the ideal time to add self-sufficiency systems, and we can design both together.
